Our analysts gathered published prices for five autonomous forklifts and pallet jacks, three subscription and rental rates, an industry estimate of installed cost, and May 2025 federal wage data for forklift operators, to show what it costs to buy, rent, or staff a forklift route as of Q4 2026.1
Key Findings
- Published prices for a single autonomous forklift or pallet jack ranged from $45,000 for Big Joe's BPM44 Pallet Mover AMR to about $153,084 for a MiR1200 Pallet Jack in Q4 2026.
- Grand View Research puts the installed cost of an autonomous forklift at $100,000 to $200,000 per unit, including software and integration.
- Vecna Robotics advertises its robots at $10 per robot-hour or less, which comes to $20,800 for a year of single-shift work.
- A forklift operator costs an employer about $69,086 a year per shift, based on the May 2025 mean wage of $23.25 an hour plus benefits.
- On three shifts, an autonomous forklift at Cyngn's listed $3,495 a month costs $41,940 a year, against about $207,257 for three shifts of operators.
An autonomous forklift is a lift truck or powered pallet jack that drives itself between pickup and drop-off points, using lidar, cameras, and a map of the building. Forklift makers such as Toyota, Crown, and Big Joe sell them alongside robotics companies such as Seegrid and Vecna Robotics, and most of these companies quote prices privately.8 But a handful now publish list prices or monthly rates, and they show a wide gap between buying a vehicle and renting one.
We used manufacturer and dealer price pages, a reseller catalog, Vecna Robotics' published hourly rate, an October 2026 DC Velocity report based on interviews with forklift makers, and Bureau of Labor Statistics wage and benefit data. Euro prices were converted at the European Central Bank rate for October 30, 2026.13
In the following sections, we compare purchase prices, subscription and rental rates, the yearly cost of one forklift route by shift, and how many autonomous forklifts the larger vendors have put into service.
What Autonomous Forklifts and Pallet Jacks Cost to Buy
Buying outright is still the usual way to get an autonomous forklift, and the vehicle price sets the size of the capital request a warehouse or plant has to make.
| Vehicle and seller | Type | Price | What the price includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Big Joe BPM44 Pallet Mover AMR | Self-driving pallet truck, 4,400 lb | $45,000, plus tax and freight2,3 | Deployment, initial training, a yearly on-site visit, and a three-year autonomy software and support subscription and limited warranty |
| The Mobile Robot Company J1600 | Self-driving pallet jack | €65,000 (about $72,618); €78,600 (about $87,812) with charger and installation4 | Base robot only; charger, installation, fleet software, and support plans are extra |
| Cyngn autonomous forklift, from reseller RobotLAB | Industrial forklift retrofitted with autonomy | $95,0005 | Not itemized |
| Vecna Robotics automated forklift | Autonomous forklift | More than $100,000 for the vehicle6 | Vehicle only |
| MiR1200 Pallet Jack, from European distributor Elmark | Autonomous pallet jack, 1,200 kg | €137,025 (about $153,084)7 | Net price before tax |
| Grand View Research estimate, reported by DC Velocity | Autonomous forklift, installed | $100,000 to $200,000 per unit8 | Hardware, software, and systems integration |

Key Findings
- The two cheapest vehicles are self-driving versions of a pallet truck, which carries a pallet at floor level. A full forklift that can lift loads, such as Cyngn's retrofitted truck at $95,000, costs about twice as much as Big Joe's pallet truck.
- Big Joe's $45,000 price includes a three-year autonomy software and support subscription, which the buyer can renew for an additional fee after 36 months, so part of the purchase works like a subscription.3
- Vehicle prices understate the full project. Vecna says total cost of ownership can run two to three times the vehicle price, and The Mobile Robot Company lists installation at €10,000 and its fullest support plan at €13,000 per robot per year.4,6
What Autonomous Forklifts Cost by Subscription or Rental
Renting moves the cost from the capital budget to the operating budget and usually hands maintenance to the vendor, which matters to a site that has never run a driverless vehicle.
| Vendor | Rate | Term | What the rate covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vecna Robotics | $10 per robot-hour or less9 | Not stated | 24/7 remote fleet monitoring and a guarantee of customer-defined performance |
| Cyngn autonomous forklift, from RobotLAB | $3,495 a month5 | Not stated | Not itemized |
| Forx autonomous stacker | €950 a month (about $1,061)10 | 48 months, 50 hours of use a month | Robot, flow software, two periodic safety inspections, parts and labor, software updates, 4G or 5G connection, and cloud supervision |
| The Mobile Robot Company J1600 trial | €4,000 (about $4,469) for two weeks4 | Two weeks, with free return at any time | Setup and support |
Source: Robotics Reviewed analysis of Vecna Robotics, RobotLAB, Forx, and The Mobile Robot Company pages, checked October 30 to November 1, 2026.
Key Findings
- Forx prices its stacker by use as well as by term. The €950 rate assumes 50 hours of work a month over 48 months, or about $21.23 for each hour the robot runs.
- The Mobile Robot Company sells a two-week paid trial of its J1600 for €4,000, with free return at any time, which caps the cost of finding out whether the robot fits a site.
- A rental also limits the risk that a first deployment does not work. Kyle Smart, who manages automation sales at Yale Lift Truck Technologies, told DC Velocity that one monthly fee lets a facility “prove out the business case without making a long-term commitment.”8
Yearly Cost of One Forklift Route by Shift: Operator vs. Autonomous Forklift
The labor an autonomous forklift takes over grows with every shift a site runs, while a monthly fee stays flat, so the comparison looks different in a one-shift plant than in a distribution center that runs around the clock.
| Option | One shift | Two shifts | Three shifts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forklift operator, wages only | $48,360 | $96,720 | $145,080 |
| Forklift operator, wages and benefits | $69,086 | $138,171 | $207,257 |
| Vecna Robotics at $10 per robot-hour | $20,800 | $41,600 | $62,400 |
| Cyngn autonomous forklift at $3,495 a month | $41,940 | $41,940 | $41,940 |
Source: Robotics Reviewed analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data for industrial truck and tractor operators, May 202511, employer benefit costs, June 202612, and published Vecna Robotics and RobotLAB prices. One shift is 2,080 hours a year.
- Operator, wage plus benefits
- Cyngn forklift, $3,495 a month
- Vecna, $10 per robot-hour
Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Vecna Robotics, and RobotLAB. Chart: Robotics Reviewed.
Key Findings
- On one shift, Cyngn's listed monthly price comes to about 61% of an operator's wages and benefits. On three shifts it comes to about 20%.
- Vecna's hourly rate rises with each shift the way wages do, so it stays at about 30% of an operator's cost on any shift pattern.
- These figures assume one robot fully replaces one driver on a route, which fits repetitive point-to-point moves better than loading trucks or picking from high racks. Fleets still need people: Jim Gaskell, a managing director at Crown Equipment, told DC Velocity that a customer may expect to run a 1.5 million-square-foot warehouse with 50 automated forklifts and five “forklift tenders” who monitor the vehicles and resolve issues.8
How Many Autonomous Forklifts the Larger Vendors Have Deployed
Market forecasts for autonomous forklifts run into billions of dollars, so we set them beside the unit counts vendors gave DC Velocity in October 2026 to see how much of this equipment is working today.
| Vendor | Units | Reach |
|---|---|---|
| Seegrid | More than 2,500 robots | Hundreds of facilities and 50-plus customers |
| Linde Material Handling | More than 1,500 sold | Global |
| Rocrich AGV Solutions | A little over 500 units | About 70 to 75 locations |
| Yale Lift Truck Technologies | Hundreds of units | North America, more than 50 customers |

Key Findings
- Seegrid, which makes autonomous tow tractors and lift trucks, reported the largest installed base among the vendors DC Velocity asked, with more than 2,500 robots across 50-plus customers.
- Seegrid plans to release a model for warehouses in early 2027 at about half the price of its manufacturing-focused equipment, according to DC Velocity.8
- Seegrid's chief sales officer, David Griffin, estimates that more than 80% of automation-only startups will not survive as standalone companies,8 so a vendor's staying power belongs in any multiyear rental or purchase decision.
What Autonomous Forklift Costs Mean for Warehouses and Plants
For most sites the decision comes down to shifts and the kind of route. A plant that runs one shift and moves pallets between a few fixed points can buy a self-driving pallet truck for less than a year of an operator's wages and benefits, while a distribution center running around the clock gets the most from a flat monthly fee, since the fee stays the same as the hours grow.
The low end of the market is moving toward warehouses. Big Joe's $45,000 pallet truck and Seegrid's planned lower-priced warehouse model both aim at buyers who could not justify a six-figure vehicle. Our report on robots-as-a-service pricing compares subscription prices for other warehouse and factory robots.
So if you are pricing an autonomous forklift, compare the full yearly cost at your actual shift pattern, and ask what the price leaves out, from chargers and installation to the software renewal after the first term.
