Who Andy Lonsberry is
Lonsberry started Path Robotics with his brother Alex, now its chief technical officer, and has run it from a basement at Case Western Reserve University to a company of more than 300 people.1,2
Welding in an Ohio garage
The Lonsberry brothers grew up in Ohio welding with their father in the family garage. Years later, while both were earning PhDs in AI-related fields, they decided they wanted to build technology that worked in the physical world rather than only on a screen.1
For years, we've believed physical AI could fundamentally change manufacturing.Andy Lonsberry, Path Robotics announcement, August 6, 2026
Starting Path Robotics
Path was founded in 2018 and is based in Columbus, Ohio. Its Obsidian AI model lets welding robots see each part, plan the weld, and adapt in real time, and its Rove product pairs that model with a legged robot to bring welding to the part.2
Scaling AI welding
Path has raised more than $370 million. It passed $100 million in bookings in 2025, and in August 2026 HII signed performance-based production agreements with Path and GrayMatter Robotics for Navy shipbuilding.2,3,4
